Link Strategy, Why
is it important?
Links are the hyperlinks that take you to other
websites having similar material.
With the recent
changes in place, links have become a crucial
thing for optimizing your website on the Google
search engine.
To get a good listing on Google,
the most popular search engine, you need to have
`good links’ to and from your website.
`Good links’ imply
that the link from and to your site relates to
your site content and is of good quality. By
providing similar content links will make the
linked-to page seem more important to the search
engine.
|
An example of a
`good link’ |
Page 'A' has content about search engine submissions.
If Page 'A' has a link to a page that lets you submit to search engines
(Page 'B'), then this is 'good link'.
If this link has text that can be read out of context (not ‘click here’),
then this makes the link and Page 'B' even more important; e.g. link text
“Submit to search engines”. |
|
 |
Some simple rules to create a 'Good Link': |
|
Make sure the content on both pages is relevant to each other
Make sure the link text used can be read out of context - DON'T USE text
such as 'click here'
Make sure that there is a link back containing good link text
|
|
 |
Some common mistakes about links: |
|
Do not use text that cannot be read out
of context - 'click here', 'back' and too many words in the text link.
Use text links if possible - these are
much better than image links
Do not use image maps for links - these
do not do well on the search engines.
|
|
The more links to
your site of good quality, the better. Search
Engines such as Google will see your site as more
important than a similar site with less links.
More links is also a good way of getting more
human visitors. If you have 50 links pointing at
your site from external sources and only 3 people
per day click those links, that's 150 clicks per
day to your site. If the link text follows the
above rules, then those 150 visitors could be
highly-targeted visitors who may wish to purchase
your products or services. |
